Curriculum overview

Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum is sequenced purposefully, with careful attention given to what pupils should learn in each subject during their time at school with us. Knowledge and skills are progressively sequenced so that pupils build on what they already know, ensuring that they are appropriately challenged and have a secure understanding of their learning.

Our curriculum is enriched with many exciting experiences and opportunities, broadening pupils’ horizons and encouraging resilience and enquiry into the unknown. This rich cultural capital, together with our Values Education and British values, ensures that our pupils are personally successful and independent thinkers; ready for their journey of lifelong learning.

Our curriculum ensures content is explicitly taught, with frequent and regular opportunities for retrieval of previously learnt content and opportunities to practice skills. We use a variety of resources including Cornerstones to create a curriculum that matches the interests and needs of our children.

Our curriculum ensures subject-specific vocabulary is explicitly taught to ensure depth of understanding, increased comprehension skills and the ability think and learn about the world

Our pupils are provided with a vast range of engaging, challenging and varied texts that help them to access a huge depth of curriculum knowledge. Pupils are encouraged to read prolifically, and we aim to inspire a lifelong love of reading in all our children and families.

We promote an awareness and understanding of their learning so that they may assess their own progress and be involved in setting targets for continuing attainment in the future.

The future is uncertain, but what is sure is that a respect for others will help our children make the most of the skills and knowledge that school aim to impart.
